Target HOPE

MISSION STATEMENT

Target HOPE Howard University Chapter has a primary goal of fostering a family atmosphere for all members, a secondary goal of being dedicated to perpetuating distinction in the areas of leadership, academic excellence and community service, and an ultimate goal of establishing a lasting result that will carry on forever through our community.

THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY CHAPTER
Target HOPE is a not for profit college preparatory organization for African-American high school students. The organization was founded in 1994 in Chicago by Mr. Euclid Williamson. Students who participate in Target HOPE are required to attend Saturday Academy where they are taught competitive courses by college professors. The students also receive extensive help in the college application process and scholarship search. Three times a year Target HOPE takes its students on a Journey to Excellence College Tour. Participants travel to Universities across the nation and are able to speak with college students, financial aid advisors, and admissions representatives. Target HOPE has aided numerous students in achieving their goals, and it is imperative that those who have matriculated from the high school component continue to stay involved and perpetuate the goals and values of Target HOPE in their communities.
The Howard University Chapter of Target HOPE was charted in January 2005 by a group of dedicated students who were apart of the high school component. Since that time, The Howard Chapter has been able to accomplish many things within the DC community and the high school component of the organization. The chapter has held many fundraisers in an effort to assist Mr. Williamson and give back to the community. As a result, Howard Chapter was able to donate $1,500 to the high school component in Spring 2005. Howard Chapter has also started the “One Saturday Morning” program for DC youth; spoke with local elementary school students about the importance of nutrition and hygiene, held numerous parties and programs in an effort to reach out to the Howard Community; hosted a college tour for Morgan Park High School Students; hosted numerous college tours for Target HOPE; and a variety of other things.
This blog will give the viewer more insight to the many facets of Target Hope HU Chapter and also offer the ideas that the chapter has for the upcoming school year. Enjoy!
